My friend sent me an instagram reel today saying how once we travel, we outgrow our home town because we’ve already expanded and grew so when we go back we feel out of place.
At first I agreed because I have experienced the feeling like there’s nothing to do in your home town. But after reflecting on this deeper, I came to the realization that being in a so called boring place actually helps you dig deeper to what’s within.
When we are constantly stimulated by our environment, whether it’s through travel or social media, it’s harder for us to tap into the internal wisdom that lies within.
But being “bored” actually helps us find out what already lies beneath.
A lot of the times when travelling, I would have deep thoughts and just brush them away because I’ll rush off to the next thing to see or to do. But when you are in a place that feels stagnant, maybe that’s the perfect place to spend time with those thoughts and realizations within.
I think often when we travel, we are so focused on our physical survival and physical enjoyment that it’s harder for us to have these deeper insights. But being in a stable place where you can relax a little, although might be boring can actually help you cultivate your original unique interests.
Being back at home has helped me to recognize that I have always been a deep and reflective person, and helping me to return to my roots of what I enjoy.
I actually love writing about deep thoughts, and I find it so rewarding that people are finding these posts helpful and relatable.
Maybe being back at home is actually helping me to be helpful to people in a way that’s unique and authentic to me.
Not to say that I won’t just book a last minute flight and be on the beaches in a faraway place this year, but there can be a lot of value in a place that we feel like we’ve outgrown.
